After five months of traveling around DeKalb County, DeKalb Young Democrats came home to Avondale Pizza Cafe last night for our September meeting. The theme of Homecoming was further reinforced by the return of former DYD President, Mayor of Clarkston, and now candidate for U.S. Senate, Ted Terry. Ted helped bring DYD back from the dead as an organization in 2009, and here we are 10 years later as he runs to replace David Perdue.
We also had the pleasure of hearing from State Sen. Elena Parent. Sen. Parent spoke about the critical need to flip as many state House seats as possible in 2020 to prevent further Republican Party gerrymandering and entrenchment heading into redistricting after the 2020 census. Every state House race matters next year! We were also honored to have several candidates for races from around the county in the house to introduce themselves, including:
In addition we received party updates, including an update from John Jackson on the DeKalb County Democratic Party, Scout Smith from the Georgia Democratic Party, and Landen Watson from the DCCC. Finally, we'd like to acknowledge the return of Bridgemon Bolger, former DYD President and the longest serving DYD President of the decade! Also don't forget, last night we announced the launch of our Road to 2020 Campaign!
